Systemex Industrial Services establishes its presence in Abitibi

With the opening of its new office in Rouyn-Noranda, Systemex Industrial Services is taking a major step in its defined plan for growth and visibility in its operations in Abitibi. We are currently working to complete the furnishing of our office which will serve as our home base for managing tooling for all our sites. A new full-time employee will join the team to oversee this responsibility and to meet all of our other needs (purchasing of parts, consumables, etc.) on various local mandates.

Speaking of local mandates, and in an effort to promote a better understanding of the nature of SIS projects, here is a breakdown of a typical scheduled shutdown at the Canadian Malartic mine:

  • One week before the scheduled shutdown, a reduced number of workers will go on site to prepare the necessary tools and to identify the specific work to be performed on various mine equipment (conveyors, anti-rollback systems, impact bars, gearboxes, etc.).
  • Before work begins, all workers must complete a 4-hour orientation session during which they will receive their site access card and review safety rules and regulations with the Malartic Health and Safety team.
  • A typical day on site starts with a meeting between the superintendent and the workers to review the day’s work based on the calendar and to go over health and safety rules and regulations. Each worker or team will then complete its work plan, assess the potential dangers related to their specific tasks, confirm the actions to take to ensure safety, and have it all approved by their foreman.
  • Specific work permits (work at heights, hot work, and confined spaces) will then be issued and the work will begin. Crews generally work in two 12-hour shifts (one night and one day).
  • The Management team meets with the client daily to assess the progress of work and to address, when necessary, any specific needs (e.g., need for a crane).

The methodical approach used in the execution of our mandates has helped SIS gain an enviable reputation for its technical expertise, for the quality of its work and for outstanding performance in health and safety.

On behalf of Systemex Industrial Services and myself, I would like to thank all of our employees who contribute to the success of our operations. Keep in mind that the number one priority at Systemex Industrial Services is health and safety… a responsibility that we all share!
